Welcome to the sixth edition of Conservative Future news in Yorkshire and Humber.

Overview by Regional Chairman

This month I had the pleasure of taking a group of twenty Yorkshire CF members down to London for an action packed 3 day tour of all things blue!

The visit included the Tower of London, a tour of the Taxpayers Alliance, a meal at the Carlton club with National Chairman Michael Rock, a tour of the House of Commons, watching PMQs and a question and answer session with Yorkshire Tory MPs Robert Goodwill, David Curry and Graham Stuart! We had a fantastic time and next year we are looking at organising a visit to the European Parliament in Brussels. I strongly encourage all Regions to be pro-active and organise visits for CF members; they are always a lot of fun and a rewarding experience!

On June 21st Colne Valley Constituency hosted this months Regional Action day. It was great to see some new faces with us and my thanks to Jason for looking after everyone who came to support the afternoons campaign.

We had some fantastic results from the elections on June 4th notably reducing Labour to a single councillor in North Yorkshire and coming top of the popular vote for the European Elections! However we have a lot of hard work to do between now and the General Election. Your support will really matter if we are to make the gains we need to get Cameron into Downing Street with a comfortable majority and get our country onto the right path. If you have any hesitations about getting involved with Conservative Future please drop me an email directly and I will answer any burning questions you might have!

Our commitment to every new member is that Yorkshire CF will look after you from your first event until your old enough to join the National Party structure when you turn thirty! If you feel we have not delivered a friendly environment for you from day one do email me and your feedback will be used to improve the way we operate. We will be organising a summer drinks party in July for members to get together. I hope you will be able to join us. Contact me at chairman@yorkshirecf.com

Area Chairman News

Chris Southeran for North Yorkshire

With the new Area Chair and Vice-Chair now in place for North Yorkshire, we have been able to concentrate more on planning and preparation for various events for the new academic year. We hope to host Robert Goodwill M.P and our PPC for York Outer Julian Sturdy at our Freshers’ Fair here in York.
The York Tories had a recent meeting with Julian in our open committee meeting and we are planning to get some campaign days organised both in the summer holidays and in the new term.

We will soon be investigating potential CF membership in areas outside of York – namely Harrogate & Knaresborough. The Area Chair has been approached by an individual expressing interest in becoming more active within the party and hopes to organise a meeting over the summer to discuss this. On 20th June, a number of the York Tories campaigned for Nigel Adams in the village of Brayton, just outside Selby. We had a very successful campaign day, delivering leaflets to households in the local area. Thanks to Nigel for the lift from York and the pub lunch!

Chris hopes to continue with campaigning across not only North Yorkshire but also the wider Yorkshire & Humber area during the summer holidays where possible. He can be contacted via email at chris.southeran@yorkshirecf.com and the Vice-chair at felix.bungay@yorkshirecf.com

Andrew Barrett for East Riding of Yorkshire and North East Linconshire

East Yorkshire and North East Lincolnshire CF enjoyed our trip to London. It was a good break from campaigning, and highlighted the importance of regular socials within our respective branches. This time of year is incredibly important for us. Our branches are currently organising their freshers fairs, which will be our last large intake before the next general election. Over the summer campaigning has been continuing with the majority of the work in our target seats.

Dan Paterson for West Yorkshire

This month has seen some sterling work done by our Vice Chairman, Nina Rosen. Nina took up the challenge of engaging directly with politics among young people, running two one week courses in Leeds to introduce narly 40 students to the world of organized politics. Nina deserves a HUGE pat on the back for her exceptional work and a big thank you from CF. Leeds CF held a great meal last Thursday, seeing the candidate for Weetwood come along as well as a good number of CFers past and present. It was a great event and we look forward to many more like this.

West Yorkshire CF is also working steadily towards building a substantial presence in Huddersfield and in Bradford and with the help of some enthusiastic new members who came along to Nina’s week in politics events we hope that both these branches will be on the campaign trail for the upcoming General Election.

Lastly, just a reminder about this years Conference, which is in Manchester. If you would like to attend the best time to book is BEFORE the 30th June. Students get a discounted rate of £35.00, non-student tickets are £70.00. WYCF is looking for good, inexpensive accommodation for the trip so that as many people as want to come, can come this year. This is going to be the last conference before the election so be sure to come along and make the most of what is sure to be an amazing event. If you would like to go just go visit http://www.conservatives.com/Get_involved/Conference.aspx

That’s all for now, however if you would like to get involved please contact me at
dan.paterson@yorkshirecf.com for details about organizations and opportunities in West Yorkshire.

James Gould for South Yorkshire

June has been a quiet month for South Yorkshire CF as many student CF members have now returned home for the summer. We continue to work hard with our somewhat reduced resources. Without a doubt the highlight of this month was the Yorkshire CF London trip. The trip was well attended by South Yorkshire members and I am sure I can say on their behalf that we all enjoyed ourselves. The meal at the Carlton Club was a particular favourite with our members and I wish to take this opportunity to thank both Philip and Michael Rock for arranging the meal.
You can contact James at james.gould@yorkshirecf.com

Chris Wales Graduate Officer

Chris has been putting together a team of individuals who are driving forward plans to develop events and opportunities for under-30s members in the Yorkshire and Humber. If you’d like to get involved, please drop him a line at chris.wales@yorkshirecf.com

Second Yorkshire and Humber Executive Meeting Held

4914_118003816872_517411872_2722416_2814648_n

On June 9th the Yorkshire and Humber Executive met in Leeds to discuss the progress we have made over the past six months and to address issues raised by members regarding improving the way that we operate. The meeting was very productive and provided the opportunity for your Area Chairman’s to swap ideas and share the progress from there respective areas. The meeting also enabled cross party decision making to take place with our counterparts in the Professional and National Party. If you have any issues you would like to raise do get in contact with your representatives who will them forward at the Executive meetings that are held every 3 – 4 months which the RC, Philip Smith, chairs.

Have your say on CF!
